Hamyar

A free bilingual guide in Farsi, Dari and plain English that helps new arrivals find their way around the NHS, benefits, housing and local services in the UK.

Hamyar, a bilingual health guide for people new to the UK

Hamyar means "helper" in Farsi. It is a free online guide from Mehr Health CIC for Farsi and Dari speakers who have recently arrived in the UK, including refugees and people seeking asylum. It explains how UK systems work, step by step, in their own language with plain English alongside.

Topics covered

  • Your health: registering with a GP, using the NHS App, booking appointments, getting medicines, mental health support, dentists and vaccinations

  • Money and government support: Universal Credit, National Insurance numbers, opening a bank account and benefits

  • Housing: council tax, paying rent, tenant rights and housing support

  • Local services: what the council does, registering children for school and finding community help

  • Daily life and rights: learning English, work, documents and legal help

  • Forms and letters: understanding official letters and getting ready to complete common applications

Hamyar also reminds people of their right to a free interpreter at GP surgeries, hospitals and many public services, and shows them how to ask for one.

The website links directly to the Hamyar app, a free AI companion that helps with live interpreting and filling in forms.

Who it is for

New arrivals, and the caseworkers, charities, councils and NHS teams who support them. Organisations can share Hamyar with the people they work with to cut down on repeated explanations and help people become independent sooner.
